A commitment to ecology based on biodiversity: Cortijo el Puerto collaborator in the European project Showcase
Biodiversity, Ecology and Innovation are characteristic features of Cortijo el Puerto. This 2021 we have started with a sample of it in the recently signed collaboration agreement with the European Showcase Project.
The EU-funded SHOWCASE project aims to shed light on these issues by reviewing and testing the ecological effectiveness of a range of economic and societal incentives to implement biodiversity management in farming operations and examine farmer and public acceptance. The project is focusing on result-based incentives, involvement in citizen science biodiversity monitoring and biodiversity-based business models. Moreover, it will design communication strategies that are tailor-made for farmers and other key stakeholders operating in different socio-economic and environmental conditions.

The event, chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación), Luis Planas, and led by Sergio Sauca, performed the ceremony for the delivery of the XXXII Food Awards of Spain, aimed at rewarding those who represent the best of all that is good, the excellence in our country in the field of food and gastronomy.
In these warm days of August we have harvested the organic and biodynamic almond that we grow in Cortijo el Puerto.
The fruit of the delicious and nutritious almond tree is gathered in our fields in the early light of the sun on these summer days accompanied by the small serenade, breeze and song of cicadas in the company of a multitude of insects, birds and small mammals that make up the landscape of biodiversity on the farm.
The harvest becomes the end of a long journey of research, work, effort and affection, a story that today we have invited you to know a little more in Cortijo el Puerto.

Cortijo el Puerto’s commitment to biodiversity and ecology encompasses both flora and fauna, therefore we are organic certified in both Agriculture and Livestock.
To produce any livestock product with the rating of ecological, organic or biological in Europe is necessary to be certified under European Standard -Reg (EC) 834/2007) and Reg (EC) 889/2008.
This Regulation establishes the requirements to be met for livestock production based on respect for natural cycles, animal welfare, manteinance of biodiversity, livestock products obtained without the use of synthetic chemicals or GMOs. Green, circular, bio economy at Cortijo el Puerto.
